Designer Johnny Cota’s L.A.-based label Skingraft is officially set to take on New York. After opening their first NYC location in May, Cota presented a stunning Spring/Summer /14 collection for his NYFW debut. Male and female models shared the runway at Chelsea Pier’s Studio 59, outfitted in Skingraft’s signature bad-ass leather-centric designs. The brand has been featured in editorial shoots for countless publications, as well as being worn by celebrities such as Ciara, 2Chainz, and ASAP Ferg. The black, white, and yellow collection also featured a bone-inspired digital print, found on dresses and tunics.
High necks and structured shoulders were offset by flowing fabric, hi-low hemlines, and transparent layers. Several skirts and dresses were given armor-like butt flaps (much more flattering than it sounds), which gave the garments an unexpected twist. Models’ slicked back, wet-looking hair perfectly accented the line’s sexy, edgy, aesthetic, grounding Skingraft as a perfect addition to the finicky world of New York fashion.
