This season marked the third year for 24-year-old designer Georgine Ratelband’s eponymous ready-to-wear label, Georgine. Big, side-swept curls by Ric Pipino and red lips by MAC were the perfect compliment to a sophisticated and feminine fall/winter collection, embodying the designer’s ideals of combining classic and formal with casual and modern. Your typical polar-vortex-friendly fur coats, leather pants, and winter jackets were given an update with a fresh and unexpected color palette. Amidst the usual black and shimmering metallics were pops of pastel pink, rich plum, and bright blue.
Having only graduated from the prestigious Istituto Europeo di Design of Milan in 2011, Georgine’s young mastermind is off to a running start. Ratelband divides her time between America, Europe, and Asia, and the cultural influences of each are apparent in her aesthetic. Rife with accessories, the latest collection sent models strutting down the runway in elbow-length color blocked gloves, round sunglasses, oversized fur cuffs, and floppy hats. Strappy heels and bare legs were offset by luxurious winter fabrics, creating the ideal balance between sexy and practical.
