There’s always an element of surprise when attending Houghton shows, and for this season designer Katharine Polk emphasized the beauty of classic, chic and sporty separates. Held at the Gallow Green on the rooftop of The McKittrick Hotel, once you walked through the doors, Houghton’s Pre-Spring 2014 presentation resembled a scene from “The Secret Garden”. The models stood in the middle of Gallow Green’s lush garden, looking angelic in beach waves and fresh faces.
The collection played with proportions, offering the wearer a variety of separates, such as loose fitting knee length dresses with detachable chiffon sleeves, cropped jacquard and jersey tops, slouchy drop waist color blocked rompers and high waist midi skirts with inverted pleats, all in soft pastels.
I had a moment to discuss with designer Katharine Polk about her overall inspiration behind her collection; She explained "the basis of the collection was to create clean, classic and simple silhouettes, which could transition from day to night. If it were a dress it would be short, loose and flowing or if it were separates the look would be sleek and form fitting."
While the flow of each garment looked beautiful on the windy rooftop, the presentation concluded with the models sashaying away from romantic garden, ending a blissful experience. Houghton’s Pre-Spring 2014 presentation was a wonderful introduction for the summer, and here at Nu-Mode´ we look forward to further collections from Houghton.
Congratulations to Katharine Polk
