The 25 designers that make up the Desigual design team put forth another display of color and pattern for their Spring/Summer 2015 runway collection. It only took moments for the crowd in the Lincoln Center to erupt into cheers once they recognized the face (and legs!) of Adriana Lima in the first look from the Say Something Nice collection. The Spanish design house teamed up with famed Frenchman Cristian Lacroix for a collaboration that literally came up (desert) roses, with 57 flora and fauna inspired looks. Models were crowned in fresh flowers, sporting loose, sexy, Victoria’s Secret-y waves and fresh faces by Gordon Espinet at the MAC Pro Team. The playlist was carefully designed to resemble auditory sunshine (think “Home” by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros), and the models were, as they usually are on Desigual runways, smiling and blowing kisses and generally hamming it up for the audience/cameras.
Several girls carried speech bubble signs reading things like “Looking for a boyfriend” and “Happy to be here!” that were cute/cheeky, and maybe a tiny bit weird/poignant. The collection was pretty much what people have come to expect of Desigual - printed, colorful, and busy, but never too daring or innovative. You probably know before looking at the collection whether you like it or not, but even those who don’t think themselves fans can admit they certainly know how to put on a show. The clothing genuinely feels warmer and more inviting to see it on such a happy, casual runway, and models look so refreshingly beautiful wearing actual smiles. Jovial runway walks and flower girl style petal-throwing make for cute and uplifting entertainment, and the charm and sweetness ties perfectly with the image of the Desigual brand.
