Everyone sat in anticipation of color for the first New York runway from Spanish brand Desigual. The S/S '14 collection began with a model happily dancing down the runway in a geometric-print black and white dress, swinging a white studded shopping bag. The next model wore a similarly geometric black and white dress with a white studded clutch. It was all so out of character for Desigual that at first I couldn't believe I made it to the right show. The brightly colored prints finally trickled in, their usual variety of colors supplemented by a variety of geometric shapes . Brightly grinning models gave high-fives as they passed one another, flirting with each other on the runway and holding banners with the slogan “Life is Cool”. Mediterranean sunshine and happy attitude - Party on!
It was impossible not to notice the work of the maestro Christian Lacroix, who started working with Desigual back in 2011 after reviving the iconic house of Schiaparelli. The pink Desigual logo, floral pink dresses and men's pants and scarves in pink were inspired by Elsa Schiaparelli - notoriously a rival of Coco Chanel – who was the first to introduce her shocking shades of pink to the world of fashion.
Desigual's SS14 collection brings lively colors that are more quiet and unusual with loose, abstract, printed dresses, overlapping shirts and t-shirts in a city sketch print, Barcelona city view printed dresses, jungle printed looks with blazers and harem trousers. But the biggest surprise was their coats, in a playful, exciting array of prints and colors: bright yellow, acid, gently bright whites, and orange polka dots. Take a fashion journey with Desigual next Summer - a brand for those with a lust for living well, feeling free, and dressing expressively.
