Chromat designer Becca McCharen debuted her Spring/Summer 2014 collection “Mathletes” on the rooftop of The Out hotel. Dozens of models filed on onto bright green faux turf, decked out in Chromat’s signature strappy, caged looks. Swimwear and lingerie-style garments were plentiful, as usual, along with streamlined pants and mesh dresses. Black, white, and yellow is proving to be a popular palette for this fashion season, with Chromat being right on trend. The label’s name was emblazoned across dresses and hems, along with a black v-neck jersey featuring a “Chromat SS 14 MATHLETES” graphic. Spandex shorts, sports bras, and strong-shouldered cages were reminiscent of athletic gear, while teeny bikini bottoms and structural bra tops hugged curves in all the right places.
Interestingly placed cut outs and mesh were layered beneath McCharen’s intricate “wearable exoskeletons,” creating graphic, structural looks. Worn by celebrities such as Beyonce and Tyra Banks and featured in an advertisement by Lexus, Chromat’s architecturally-inspired garments and accessories are eye-catching and flattering if you’ve got the right figure. The Mathletes collection struck an interesting balance of sexy and sporty, and is yet another set of looks from Chromat that are perfect for anyone looking to make a skimpy statement.
